Bacteriocidal. Inhibits mycolic acid biosynthesis. Also disrupts DNA, lipid, carbohydrate and NAD synthesis and metabolism.

Indication
     Part of DOTS (directly observed therapy)
          DOTS has a success rate exceeding 95% and prevents the emergence of further MDR-strains.
     Latent TB
A/E
     Drug-induced hepatitis
     Peripheral neuropathy (uncommon), can be minimized by coadministration of Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine)
Note
     Available IM or in combination pills
     Safe in pregnancy
Contraindications
     Caution in liver failure, increased risk for hepatotoxicity
