Use backup contraception until:

• azoospermia on two samples: at 3 months and 4 months post-vasectomy

 

If persistent non-motile sperm, patients can be counselled to cautiously discontinue backup contraception if:

• seven months have passed
• at least 24 ejaculations have occurred
• no more than rare non-motile sperm on analysis on fresh samples
