Benzodiazepine-reversal agent

 

Acute reversal of benzodiazepine overdose in procedural sedation

Dose, BDZ-sedation reversal:
     0.2 mg IV over 15 seconds. May repeat q20min. Max dose 1 mg total.

Dose, BDZ overdose:
     0.2 mg IV over 30 seconds. Then 0.3 mg IV over 30 seconds. Then 0.5 mg IV over 30 seconds q1min PRN. Max dose 5 mg total.

Indications

Warning
     Can theoretically precipitate seizure activity in patients who chronically take benzodiazepines or chloral hydrate.

Contraindications
     Patient exhibiting seizure activity
     Co-ingestion of drugs with pro-convulsant properties (e.g. TCAs) due to increased risk of seizures
