Myxomatous valve degeneration is the pathologic cause of MVP
Sx
     Higher-than-expected incidence of chest pain compared with the normal population, which cannot be explained by the valvular abnormality
          The pain is atypical for cardiac pain and is easily distinguishable from angina (e.g. pain lasting 5-10 seconds)
     Anxiety*
     Palpitations*
     Hyperventilation*
     *These are controversial. The association is sometimes referred to as mitral valve prolapse syndrome.
PE
     Mid-systolic click over the cardiac apex
     May be accompanied by a short systolic murmur if mitral regurgitation is present.
          SQUATTING DECREASES THE MURMUR
Sequelae
     May progress to mitral regurgitation
