Severe aortic stenosis diagnostic criteria

• Required
  • Aortic jet velocity >=4.0 m/s
    • OR
  • Mean transvalvular pressure gradient >=40 mmHg
• Optional
  • Valve area usually <=1.0cm^2

 

Indications for valve replacement

• Severe aortic stenosis plus at least one of the following:
  • Onset of new symptom such as
    • angina
    • syncope
    • exertional dyspnea
  • LVEF <50%
  • Undergoing other cardiac surgery (e.g. CABG)
